We have a good thunderstorm over Freehold right now. That thunder is LOUD!

When you're ten years older but feel ten years younger.

We're taking a quick break in Holmdel park before going on to our next catering job. What a beautiful day! This is as good as it gets in August.

The sunset tonight is pretty cool.

Us @spursofficial fans are everywhere. I just came across this car in New Jersey.

It's so easy to believe you can't do something. Because then you don't even have to try. I know I'll never be able to do this so why even bother? Believing you CAN do something opens you up to fear. Fear of failure. What if I fall? Plus there's the fact you have to physically do something, make changes, put in effort to achieve whatever it is you want. Too much effort, right? Here are some of the lies I used to tell myself. I can't lose weight. I don't have the willpower. This is just who I am now. I'll never be able to reverse my type two diabetes. I guess I'll be on my medication for the rest of my life. I can't run. I can't even run a block without being out of breath. I certainly could never run a mile. Thankfully I finally recognized those statements for the lies they were. I made changes. I lost the weight I needed to lose. My longest ever run, so far, is eleven miles and that one mile I "could never run" is now my warm up. And I've been off Metformin over four years now. When you stop lying to yourself you will realize you can do anything you want. You just have to want it enough.

I wrote this three years ago. Sometimes It's good to take a moment to look back and see where you you used to be. And appreciate the fact you're not there any more. Life is too short to get stuck in bitter regrets. Appreciate what you have. I have been a type 2 diabetic for many years now. Although it's under tight control at the moment I know it can come roaring back if I go back to old habits. Diabetes nearly took my eyesight a few years ago. I'm grateful that I can still see. Sometimes we need to appreciate the things that we tend to take for granted. "I just got back from a nice long walk and I suddenly realized how much I have to be Thankful for. I was looking at the trees and the gorgeous blue sky and it dawned on me how lucky I am to still be able to enjoy the scenery! This time last year my vision was beginning to deteriorate. I know without the implant surgery I had I would be totally blind by now. By the time I had the first implant my vision in that eye was 90 % gone. And my other eye was going the same way. Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness and this was happening because of the years my diabetes was out of control. Now here I am, nearly 40 lbs lighter, fitter than I have ever been, off diabetes medication with my sugar under tight control. And I'm still able to enjoy the beauty that mother nature has to offer. So what if we still have stress in our lives? So what if we have selfish, inconsiderate landlords? I still have so much to be grateful for. And better times are just around the corner!"

It's nice to know I can still knock out a six mile run even though I'm so inconsistent with my running these days. My life is so busy now it's hard to find the time. I ran it in 64 minutes too so I'm happy with that. Not bad for 51!

This is our cousins dog, Maxine. Or as I call her, Mad Maxine. Dogs are the best. They give unconditional love and ask for so little in return.
